Adult Life 03:34
When I was younger, I didn't have a past Just memories with nothing more attached Then I wake up one day to find it's gone Well, good riddance innocence, I'm done being young Tie me down and fit me in the mold Kiss me like you will when we grow old It's adult life for us When I was younger, I didn't know regret Impulse decision, and that was that Then I wake up one day to find it's true Welcome sweet burdens, I've been waiting for you Tie me down and fit me in the mold Kiss me like you will when we grow old It's adult life, it's adult life for us Take the slow lane, set my time in stone Give me adult life or give me death

LYRICS: For those who lost their flair, there’s a dance For those who can’t do it like they did before For those still holding out for a chance Might as well face it: you’ve lost the spark Lightning never strikes the same place twice Don’t waste your time chasing storm after storm So treat yourself, dress up in something nice And do the dance for when the magic’s gone CHORUS: Tense up your body, freeze up your mind Move around in circles and Do the sophomore slump Vision is spotty, you’ve passed your prime Give yourself the jitters and Do the sophomore slump Don’t worry, it may pass Unless you’re just a little flash in the pan Take a step back and have some class There’s someone better, and they’re making plans Being cool is easy to pull off But staying cool is just not in the cards So treat yourself and buy a cool guitar Play a tune, and find yourself a job CHORUS: Tense up your body, freeze up your mind Move around in circles and Do the sophomore slump Vision is spotty, you’ve passed your prime Give yourself the jitters and Do the sophomore slump

What should I wear today Can I make it through another winter spring summer fall What should I wear today I'll be without you another winter spring summer fall Don't need good, don't need great Just need fine, normal, everyday Nothing more, just a taste of okay And it humbles me to say it, but... I could use your love Right about now I could use your love I'm done acting proud What shall I cover up today Maybe that I'm a fool who thought I could Be alone through it all Don't need good, don't need great Just need fine, normal, everyday Nothing more, just a taste of okay I could use your love Right about now I could use your love I'm done acting proud

about

Doves: the inner voices that begin to accompany you the further you move away from childhood. They monitor you as you consider taking risks; they try to define you, telling you what you can and can't do; they open the doors to happiness or depression; they serve as editors, clouding your instincts; and on, and on.

As we get older, we realize life is finite and imperfect. Once that notion kicks in, the inner dialogues amplify. With that amplification, we learn to deal with the Doves - some are overwhelmed by them, some bury them. We figure it out as we go.

Reckoning with your Doves can be isolating. It is a private process at its core. Not everybody has the courage to speak up and out about that process. We isolate ourselves with our internal dialogues, but we all share similar struggles.

Doves are everywhere, inside of every human you pass on the street, with their own running commentaries and points of view.
The next time you feel like you are isolated in your struggle, remember: you are not alone. đź’—
